Shifting the narrative

The company story
Axle International is an award-winning sociopolitical risk and strategy advisory firm. Our mission is to shape the future landscape of governance by designing and implementing a risk-based approach for the peace-security-development nexus.

We believe that the changing needs and aspirations of citizens can only be met by strengthening institutional capacities, enhancing good governance and promoting democracy.
Contact us
We believe that risk management requires a new approach: one that truly encompasses all actors influencing human security and uses a range of socio-political indicators to measure the stability of States
We believe that a critical first step in creating development opportunities is a thorough understanding of the capacities of public bodies, national and regional priorities, available resources and socio-political risks. Rather than adopting generic norms for governance, we aim to improve internal capabilities and embed risk management in the decision-making process. This adapted approach lays a strong foundation for growth and fosters efficient and accountable institutions at every level.

Axle was created to support policy-makers to understand socio-political challenges and adopt risk-informed development strategies for the stability of the African continent. We combine expertise in international development, crisis management, strategy and operations to look beyond macroeconomic factors, assess drivers and track development.

Our methodologies intrinsically incorporate the interconnected and multidimensional nature of socio-political risks. By analysing all actors influencing human security, we put people at the centre of the analysis to capture the nuances between real and perceived frustrations, help align policies to human progress and wellbeing and provide context-specific solutions.

Axle is supported by an advisory board, comprising former diplomats, advisors and decision-makers, which assists in defining and delivering project engagements.

We combine expertise in international relations, crisis, strategy and operations to look beyond macroeconomic factors, assess drivers and create real change.

We work with a curated pool of international experts who provide us with rich and diverse insights on security and development across the African continent.

Supporting national crisis management
In order to face the regional scale of terrorism, a West African government sought to address structural vulnerabilities and enhance its national capacities to manage the crisis.
We provided a five-month strategic plan which included actionable steps to strengthen the capabilities of the institutions of the country to better prevent, manage and resolve conflicts.
Overcoming irregular migration flows
An international organisation sought to enhance its leadership and improve the management of irregular migration flows.
We provided in-depth analyses of the drivers of irregular migration and detailed a comprehensive roadmap identifying adapted and coordinated actions for mutually beneficial and sustainable outcomes.
Mapping disruptions in the energy industry
A leading international energy distributor required an understanding of future challenges to define its long-term vision.
We performed a strategic review of energy trends over a five-year horizon and built a risk prioritisation framework that considered the capacities and operational vulnerabilities of the organisation across a national territory.
Supporting national development priorities
A government decided to adapt its national economic and environmental policies to protect its natural resources and offer a better standard of living to its population.
We supported the drafting of an innovative strategy promoting the use of renewable energy and assisted the dedicated ministries to incubate the initiative at a regional level.
